In Memory of Mark Negin.
The Montefiore Endowment is deeply saddened by the passing of Mark Negin z’l on Tuesday 27th October 2026 at his home at the age of 94. Mark devoted well over three decades of his life to the Montefiore Synagogue and Mausoleum in Ramsgate. Mark was much more than someone who helped run and maintain these historic buildings; he was a familiar and valued presence whose dedication and knowledge made a lasting contribution to the Endowment and all those who visited.
Mark had an exceptional knowledge of the Montefiore family, their history in Ramsgate, and their wider significance in the UK and around the world. His knowledge extended far beyond this, encompassing many other areas of history, which he was always willing to share. Through his numerous lectures at the Synagogue, he brought the past to life for countless visitors, helping them gain a deeper appreciation of the history and significance of the place.
Mark was a man who lived a full life and was deeply involved in his community. The large turnout at his funeral was a moving reflection of the many lives he touched, the friendships he built and the respect and affection in which he was held.
For the Montefiore Endowment, Mark’s passing marks the loss of someone who gave so much of his time, knowledge and energy over many years. His contribution will not be forgotten, and his dedication to preserving and sharing the history of the Montefiore family will remain an important part of his legacy.
He will be greatly missed, and the Montefiore Endowment extends its heartfelt condolences to all his family and friends.
