After serving on the Board of the Montefiore Endowment for two decades, and as Chairman since 2011, Lucien Gubbay has announced his retirement from the Board. Alan Bekhor, the previous Vice Chairman, has now been appointed Chairman and Isaac Levy has been appointed Vice-Chairman. In recognition of his outstanding contribution, Lucien Gubbay will be granted the title of Honorary Life President and in that role will continue to offer guidance and support to the Board.
The newly appointed Chairman Alan Bekhor, speaking on behalf of the Board, said:
“Lucien Gubbay has been an extraordinarily dedicated and effective chairman. Together with Rabbi Abraham Levy z’’l, he has developed the charity into an important pillar of the training of leadership and higher education within Anglo-Jewry. This includes such pioneering initiatives as the flagship semicha programme that has trained a new generation of rabbis up to the highest standards, and (together with our partners) the training of dayanim, and the launch of the programme for women to qualify as yoatzot halacha. We express our deep gratitude to Lucien for these wonderful achievements; and we are extremely glad that we will be able to continue to benefit from his wisdom and experience in guiding the important work of the Endowment.”
