[UCL Spec.Coll. Box 24, no. 126] [Text Testimonial]
Sir Moses Montefiore Bart. F.R.S.
We, the undersigned, representing The Manchester
Branch of the Anglo-Jewish Association, desire to be allowed to express to you our sincere congratulations on the auspicious occasion of your completing your hundredth year.
Your wide-spread charity, which has known no distinction
of race or creed, your indefatigable exertions on behalf of such of our brethren as are oppressed, your sincere attachment and conscientious adherence to our Faith, have tended, more than any success in the Senate, the Forum, or the Market-place, to
endear you to the whole civilized world, and to elevate and gain respect for the name of Jew. Englishmen are
grateful that a life so long and so noble has been an English life. Jews are grateful that it should have been a Jewish one.
We pray that Almighty God may still warant you
years of life and health, that you may see the fruit of your works and that those who come after you, may take you as a model
to copy, be it ever so faintly, an example to be followed, be it ever so distantly.
