The Montefiore Endowment supports selected publications relevant to the promotion of Advanced Torah Learning, either by members of the College or by those connected with it.
The Endowment has, for example, supported the publication in English of Dayan Basri’s monumental survey of Jewish Monetary Law as well as supporting several university students with their Ph.D theses.
A research paper on demographic details of the growth of the Jewish population of the Holy Land in the latter part of the 19th century by Daniel Kessler was published in Volume 6 (2016) of Middle Eastern Studies. ‘A Giant of a Man’, a research paper by Sally Style B.A., the Montefiore Librarian, is available on this website Petitions/ Research Paper. This describes in detail the picture of Sir Moses Montefiore visualised by the many thousands of authors of petitions sent to him from the Holy Land and from all over Europe and the Middle East.
