The Collection of Ritual Silver

This collection derives from the Montefiore Synagogue in Ramsgate and also from Sir Moses's personal bequest. Two magnificent centrepieces, together with three fine pairs of 18th century rimmonim are on loan to the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, where they are on display in the Silver Galleries. The remaining objects are in the custody of the Montefiore Endowment. Sadly they are too valuable to use in synagogue services except, possibly, on special occasions. A catalogue, with photographs taken by Dr. Oliver Samuel, is attached to this website. Access to items in the Collection is not usually given, due to necessary security precautions.
